Some time after he had finished his house Daniel asked his friend Tarlagh Harley if there were any Protestants in the area that would be a suitable wife for him. Tarlagh told him of a miller who lived in Port Inis Mil near Burtonport who had three daughters. According to legend Daniel went to visit the miller and ended up
marrying one of his daughters, Nuala.
After his marriage to Nuala Daniel extended his house and added a flag floor.
